Description Chris Lewis 2024-09-06 01:07:57 UTC
SUMMARY
KDE Connect does not see my phone unless I have wifi enabled. Even if I'm connected to the same wired network and I can ping my phone, and my phone can ping my laptop, it won't recognize it. I don't think it's a network issue because I use a dumb wireless AP, and there's no routing or anything happening. There's no firewalls enabled or anything like that.

STEPS TO REPRODUCE
1. Disable Wifi and hardwire your computer to the same LAN as your phone
2. Open KDE Connect, and it will not find your device.
3.

SOFTWARE/OS VERSIONS
Windows:
macOS:
(available in the Info Center app, or by running `kinfo` in a terminal window)
Linux/KDE Plasma: Linux Mint 22
KDE Plasma Version:
KDE Frameworks Version: 5.115.0
Qt Version: 5.15.13 (built against 5.15.13)

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION
I'm running the KDE connect app on a Pixel 7, running the CalyxOS custom ROM. Other than the issue with it connecting to my Linux machine when it's on Ethernet, the app works just fine.

Forgot to add that once I get it connected with Wifi, I'm able to disable the wifi on the laptop and remain connected until I close/reopen KDE Connect SMS again.

This does not reproduce for me. Please provide more information about your network topology.

My network has both the Ethernet and the wifi on the same subnet.

Based mostly on guess of your description, it sounds like your ethernet network and wifi network are different subnets. This will break KDE Connect's UDP discovery. Does the app work if you manually add the Ethernet-connected device IP address in Android?
