Description Cherkah 2024-09-05 12:57:12 UTC
SUMMARY
the "caps lock num" key should occasionally unhide hidden panels (when automotic/stow) whenever it is active.

same thing for the following app:
bluetooth
printer
disks and peripherals
Comment 1 Nate Graham 2024-09-05 16:17:05 UTC
Can you explain what led you to the conclusion that pressing the Caps Lock should un-hide your auto-hidden panel? Have you re-bound the Caps Lock key to do something that you would expect would trigger this behavior, and that's not working? Or is it a thing you would like to happen just in a general sense?
Comment 2 Cherkah 2024-09-05 16:28:31 UTC
currently: pressing the "vernum shift" key does not trigger the panel to appear
motivation of the proposal:
it's less than 2 weeks since I reinstalled my system and no key reassignment was done. apparently this is not a feature included in plasma. so I would like plasma to implement this functionality in its next version if possible!!!!

same thing for the following app:
bluetooth (connect)
disks and peripherals (connect)
printer (print)
Comment 3 Nate Graham 2024-09-16 13:22:27 UTC
So you're asking for a new feature: that the Caps Lock key un-hides your auto-hidden panel?

yes, only to show for a while the icon's Caps Lock key and only on the screen where the focus is set.
that is already the case when "disks and peripherals"
These icons are those of the miniature boxes

same thing for the following panel icon:
bluetooth (new device connect)
printer
...

Are you saying you made the Caps Lock key activate individual widgets, and this succeeds at making the hidden panel visible — but it only works for some widgets, not all of them?

ok
i talked about the "maj vernum" key because in my example, it is this key that triggers the appearance of the icon in my panel cf. attachment.

my request is therefore not specific to any key assignment for a particular action.

i am simply asking if it is possible after certain system actions/events that the hidden panel can reappear.

as mentioned at the beginning there is no key assignment other than those already by default, and this post represents a feature request.

do you get me?

Oh! So you want that when the Keyboard Indicator widget becomes active because the Caps Lock key has been pressed, it also forces its auto-hidden panel to become visible so you can see it?
Comment 8 Cherkah 2024-09-16 16:53:18 UTC
1) sorry for the attachment but the screen record is laggy/buggy even with mp4/h264.
2) even if the mouse setting is unset in systemsetting, the magnifying effect of the mouse remains (end of the video)
is it a bug? maybe

right.
just for a while.
my request is motivated by the fact that the diode of the "vernum shift" key on my bt keyboard does not work when i use kde-plasma, but it works on windows or gnome.

i have already discussed it with you personally (bug XXXX). and you told me then that plasma had nothing to do with this problem.
I think this was present in previous versions of plasma...

I get it now.

I have a feeling if we implemented this, we'd get a lot of complaints about it, though. Unsure it's a good idea.
Comment 12 Nate Graham 2025-03-07 18:23:55 UTC
Yeah, I don't think we will, sorry. I predict the complaints would be many.
Comment 13 Cherkah 2025-03-08 09:32:17 UTC
ok ,no problem!
