Created attachment 172839 [details] This shows how tiny the cursor shows up for me SUMMARY The mouse cursor is very, very tiny! I'm legally blind and just tried to use this app as a hopeful alternative to Lightroom. Fairly new to Linux Desktop. The mouse cursor being so tiny most of the time (sometimes appears larger) is an absolute show stopper for me. I've tried other tips for enabling larger cursors for Qt apps but none of them work, so please just tell me what I should do to get a larger cursor, or if there's something you can code up to improve this experience. Linux fedora 6.10.5-200.fc40.x86_64 #1 SMP PREEMPT_DYNAMIC Wed Aug 14 15:49:44 UTC 2024 x86_64 GNU/Linux GNOME Shell 46.4 Wayland mutter 46.4 digiKam about screen: Version 8.4.0 Build date: 7/12/24 4:16 PM (target: RelWithDebInfo) Revision: 5e59e2643c4e55ca52b6de00ef58f64fee225025 Branch: HEAD STEPS TO REPRODUCE 1. Launch latest AppImage on recent GNOME Wayland version. OBSERVED RESULT Note the tiny mouse cursor. Sometimes my very large cursor shows up, like when I'm taking a regular screenshot (this forum seems to only allow one attachment). Believe me, the cursor I want is about twice as tall as the menu bar. EXPECTED RESULT I expect the cursor to have the same size as on my other GNOME apps, as set in the Accessibility Settings. SOFTWARE/OS VERSIONS Given above. ADDITIONAL INFORMATION Maybe you guys don't support GNOME but that's ridiculous. I know GNOME is a pain. They don't listen to people, and especially to users with disabilities. But we've got to find workarounds. I'm a developer - https://github.com/dra11y I work mostly in Rust, Flutter, and have dabbled in C/C++ but not enough to be dangerous. Happy to give something a try if directed specifically. Otherwise, I've tried all these in my .profile: export QT_QPA_PLATFORM=wayland export XCURSOR_SIZE=96 export XCURSOR_THEME=Adwaita export QT_SCALE_FACTOR=2 Don't know what else to do. Thanks for your understanding.
Hi, We don't play with the mouse size in digiKam code. It's delegate the the Windows manager. Please check your system settings. Best Gilles Caulier
Look, I am a user with a disability, I came to you for help with a very specific problem, went through the trouble and time to describe it in detail, and received a flippant response that did not acknowledge my frustration or the effort I put in to seek help, and offered no pointers or hints on what I might be able to do to resolve this problem as a user of the software that you created. Clearly, you have put a lot of effort into developing this app over many years. I appreciate your work on it. Dismissing users like this undermines those efforts and reflects negatively on both your project and yourself as a developer. I’m sure this is not what you intended. I would appreciate some pointers on what you mean by, “check your system settings.” If you read my report clearly, you will see that I already did that. Surely after developing this app for 20 years, you’ve seen users with this problem before. If you don’t know the answer, it’s OK to admit that you don’t know. But you have a whole list of contributors, someone of which has surely seen this problem before. The very least you could do is help get me to someone on your team who could actually help. You want people to adopt Linux, but the attitude shown here is exactly why people are not embracing Linux. Maybe the problem is not your fault, but instead of being part of the problem in the Linux community, how about being part of the solution and being a bit more helpful?
