SUMMARY
Screenshots copied from spectacle don't paste in Signal but do paste if Signal is relaunched or if the screenshot is clicked in the clipboard applet 

STEPS TO REPRODUCE
1. Take a screenshot
2. Copy screenshot
3. Try to paste in Signal's message field

OBSERVED RESULT
Screenshot not pasted in Signal but can be worked around in 2 ways:

1. Re-launch Signal
2. Open clipboard history and select the screenshot item


EXPECTED RESULT
Screenshot should be pasted in Signal

I know Signal is specific, so I am trying to find another app where I can reproduce this issue.

Do you have Spectacle set up save images in the JPEG file format?

Indeed. Changing it to PNG fixes the issue for me.
