Description jetsonsandcool 2024-08-07 18:40:04 UTC
SUMMARY
If I set my microphone volume to 150% my microphone volume will randomly get reset to somewhere between 40% to 96%. I'm using the latest versions of KDE and pipewire available to me.

STEPS TO REPRODUCE
1. Change the global microphone volume to 150% in Plasma (You'll need to toggle raise max volume)
2. Wait anywhere between 1 second and 20 minutes
3. Microphone volume will be suddenly reset

OBSERVED RESULT
My Microphone volume will randomly change from 150% (Which is what I have it set to) to a seemingly random number (I've seen anywhere from 40%-96%)

EXPECTED RESULT
It should stay 150% and not change.

SOFTWARE/OS VERSIONS
Linux/KDE Plasma: Artix Linux (runit)
Kernel Version: 6.10.1-zen1-1-zen
KDE Plasma Version: 6.1.3
KDE Frameworks Version: 6.4.0
Qt Version: 6.7.2

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION
I've used Plasma 6 before on Void Linux with basically the same setup and never had this problem. I'm starting pipewire through this login script specifically:
```
#!/bin/bash
/usr/bin/pipewire & /usr/bin/pipewire-pulse & /usr/bin/wireplumber
```

Can't seem to reproduce on git master, arch linux, wayland.

Do you ever change the microphone source or profile?

Seeing a random level like that seems to suggest that something may by changing it in the background. Does this ever happen with a new user and no apps that could interfere with the microphone level running?

Yes, and it happens to me on every new installation of Plasma on Artix I install.
