SUMMARY
Yes, I have spent quite a while trying to figure out which application is crashing windows. It only happens when digikam is running, even if it is in the background and I'm not actively doing anything in it. Since this is WIndows, I don't have a backtract to give you. This has been happening for months (since last fall sometime).

STEPS TO REPRODUCE
Unfortunately, I can't get any steps to reliably reproduce this other than run for a while under windows.

OBSERVED RESULT
WIndows halts and has to be power cycled.

EXPECTED RESULT

SOFTWARE/OS VERSIONS
Windows: 11
macOS:
Linux/KDE Plasma:
(available in About System)
KDE Plasma Version:
KDE Frameworks Version:
Qt Version:

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION
I have no idea what is relevant and what isn't relevant.
Images are on an external drive. The external drive is substed to a local directory so it doesn't move every time I start windows. This means that digikam has automatically switched it to local even though I have said it is on a removable media.
I have about 1TB of images. I have just over 79,000 images. This started at around 70,000 images.
It does seem to happen most ofter either when I have been using the editor, or when I have added images by copying from another directory.

I think it's impossible that digiKam will crash your Windows. Check your drive, USB connections, etc. The idea of an application running with user rights crashing Windows has been a thing of the past for many years, even with Windows.

The only possibility I have is that you have broken OpenGL drivers. To test this, go to the digiKam settings under Miscellaneous->System and activate the option to force software OpenGL (restart digiKam).

Report if anything has changed.
