Description Tyson Tan 2024-07-19 14:33:45 UTC
Somewhere after version 5.2.2, Krita Android became unable to display canvas after a cold start of the app. Opening an existing document or creating a new document for the first time after a cold start does nothing -- everything greys out after that. It can be solved by switching away from the Krita app -- by either going to the device's Home Screen or the Task Switcher.

Tested on Samsung Galaxy Tab S8 with OneUI 5.1 (Android 14) using both 5.2.3 and the latest nightly APK (d9195f26b1, 2024-07-19). Multiple cases on different devices and older Android versions were reported to me by the local community.

Procedure to reproduce:

1) Exit Krita from its File menu;
2) Cold start Krita;
3) Create a new document;
4) Nothing happens, Krita doesn't display its canvas, everything greys out;
5) Switch away from the Krita app to Home Screen of the device and then back to Krita;
6) Krita can now display its canvas;
7) Any later document behaves normally until exiting Krita;
