Support for displaying JPEG-XL images in web pages should be implemented in QtWebEngine, which is the web engine both Konqueror and Falkon use to render web pages. It's not something that the application themselves can add, since QtWebEngine does all the rendering by itself. You could try creating an issue in the Qt bug tracker with this request. You can find the bug tracker at https://bugreports.qt.io/secure/Dashboard.jspa. Displaying JPEG-XL images in a Konqueror tab already works, provided you have Gwenview installed and that it supports this image format.
Thanks for the tip. I have created a bug report under https://bugreports.qt.io/browse/QTWB-76 . I can open jxl files with Gwenview, but they are not displayed with Konqueror or Falkon, e.g. here: https://www.reinerbock.de/foss/transparenz/transparenz.htm
What I meant is that if you open a JPEG-XL image on your hard disk, it will be correctly displayed in a Konqueror tab (using functionality provided by Gwenview). Your example is a web page and wont work until QtWebEngine starts supporting it. By the way, do you know whether other browsers support this image format?
Sorry, I misunderstood that. Yes, there are various web browsers that support JPG-XL: - Gnome Web (Epiphany) since version 46.0 or 46.1 - NetSurf (only in Archlinux, not in Debian/Ubuntu) - Midori - Safari (proprietary from Apple) -Waterfox (fork from firefox)
Thanks. I had tried in Firefox, Chrome and Vivaldi and none of them were able to display the images.
