Created attachment 171259 [details] Microsoft's warning email about the upcoming changes SUMMARY I received an email from Microsoft today stating that they will disable traditional username-and-password authentication entirely on September 16, 2024. Previously you could generate app passwords to continue using normal IMAP authentication in KMail, but it sounds like this will not work. If Akonadi does not get support for Microsoft accounts, KMail users (as well as any other app that uses Akonadi for emails, like Merkuro) will no longer be able to read any Microsoft-hosted email, including @outlook.com addresses, @hotmail.com addresses, and any corporate addresses provided by O365. STEPS TO REPRODUCE 1. Sign into KMail with a Microsoft-hosted email account 2. Wait until September 16, 2024 3. Your email will no longer sync OBSERVED RESULT not applicable as it is not yet September 16 EXPECTED RESULT Ideally a Microsoft account plugin will be developed for Akonadi. A workaround is to use Thunderbird or live.com to read mail; however, I prefer KMail. While I have no experience with Akonadi development, I may be able to contribute to development of an Akonadi plugin for Microsoft accounts.
Akonadi already supports OAUTH2 authentication for Outlook accounts.
Ah, so it does. I apologize for not thoroughly testing since the last time I'd checked.
