Description markuss 2024-06-30 00:21:00 UTC
I bought Krita on MS Store and Steam to support development and get automatic updates. The 5.2.3 update has not been released on either. Please fix and implement a work flow this doesn't happen again. This isn't the first time.

Hi, Markuss!

I'm sorry for the delay. We have some issues with Windows binaries signing caused by the build system change, so the uploads are a bit delayed. I've also started an internal discussion about adjusting the release workflow.

Hey Markuss.

To clarify a bit, Krita 5.2.3 actually was released for Linux, Windows and Mac on Steam last Tuesday (even before our release announcement post went up), but has unfortunately since been rolled back to 5.2.2 due to the problem that Dmitry mentioned causing users to experiences frequent assertion failures (crashes).

As a paying customer I can understand how that's frustrating, so to make sure you have some agency here too I have pushed Krita 5.2.3 to the "beta" branch for Krita on Steam. (Access by right clicking on Krita -> Properties -> Betas tab -> "beta" Branch. Steam may take a minute to switch back.)

We've never had to roll back a release on Steam before, and I realize it's not ideal, but it seemed to be the better option than continuing to ship an update with frequent crashes to Steam customers. Providing timely updates to people like you who choose to support us on Steam is not something that I take lightly and in the ~6 years since I've been managing Krita on Steam, I can only think of 1 time that we've been late to push an update there (which was due to me being unavailable at the time).

I give you my word that I'll push the Krita 5.2.3 update to Steam as soon as humanly possible once we have a stable release build available.
Please give us a bit more time to work out this issue and thank you for your support.

Emmet

Here is the bugreport that blocks Steam to be updated:

https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=489537

It is a regression and might break user's normal workflow.

I did push the update out to the windows store, but I cannot check that right now because the windows store management site is down.

I have confirmed with Emmet that the steam version has been updated. I also uploaded to the windows store, when I had a short window that I could login but I cannot access the site again...
