Description cwo 2024-06-27 07:05:04 UTC
SUMMARY

The "Show Clipboard Items at Mouse Position", by default bound or Meta-V, shows a menu-like interface showing a filterable list of previous history entries. This interface does not appear in the task bar.

Sometimes, however, it does appear briefly on the task bar, only to immediately disappear again. It does not happen every time you execute the shortcut, but reasonably frequently, so that there is a good chance it'll be shown in regular usage. If the "Icons and text task manager" is used, the resulting window has the title "plasmashell". A good way to reliably see the issue is to hold Meta-v pressed with auto-repeat enabled on the keyboard.

This behavior can be blocked by several factors, including having a "plasmashell" window open already, and having particular windows on screen (which greatly reduces the speed of showing the klipper popup (this is probably a separate bug). Computer speed may also matter; this is on a reasonably old laptop (T260 from 2016) that generally has no issues running plasma.

STEPS TO REPRODUCE

Steps for a fresh profile

1. Open Firefox, maximize it
2. Copy some words from the default page to fill the clipboard
3. Press and hold Meta-v

OBSERVED RESULT

Icontask flickers as entries keep appearing and disappearing.

EXPECTED RESULT

Icontask does not change, as nothing changes with regard to windows that should appear in the task manager.

SOFTWARE/OS VERSIONS

Current neon unstable

KDE Plasma Version: 6.1.80
KDE Frameworks Version: 6.4.0
Qt Version: 6.7.0

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION

This might only happen on Wayland, not X11. In X11, holding Meta-v does not repeatedly open and close the klipper popup, which honestly may be the more sane behavior generally, but does not allow stress-testing this in the same way as on wayland. In my brief manual testing, I could not get it to show the the window in the task bar, but I can't rule out that it might still happen if I tried often enough, or on a slower/faster system, etc.

I can aldo reproduce this if I spam Meta+V. Often when I let go of the V, I'll see an item appear and immediately disappear in the Task Manager.

Can't reproduce this anymore with the new QML version of the popup.
