Description Maximilian Böhm 2024-06-26 21:49:05 UTC
Clicks at the button edge don’t click or hover task entries on Plasma 6.1 with unfloating panel config

After upgrading to Plasma 6.1, I find it deeply frustrating to that moving the mouse cursor on the screen edge doesn’t show me window previews anymore. Switching windows via mouse wheel is also impossible with the cursor on the edge. I have to move the cursor up.
This works when I enable the floating panel and have windows filling the whole screen, so the panel isn’t floating anymore. But not with the classical unfloating panel. I’m using the text task manager.
Also moving the cursor down and clicking at the position of a task entry at the edge doesn’t click it anymore.

EXPECTED RESULT
Cursor on the screen edge under the panel should show window previews and allow mouse wheel switching of programs (when this is enabled in the task manager settings). Clicking at the edge should click into the task entries above. That’s how it has worked until Plasma 6.1.

SOFTWARE/OS VERSIONS
KDE Plasma Version: 6.1.0
KDE Frameworks Version: 6.3.0
Qt Version: 6.7.2

Cannot reproduce, are you using Wayland?

No, on X.Org. Tested on Wayland, there it works.

Does this issue affect clicks intended for other widgets on the panel, or only Task Manager tasks?

Indeed, it affects all plasmoids, the whole panel. My clicks seem to go to the desktop background instead.

If it's widely reproducible, probably worth fixing since some retrograde distros still default to X11. In general, X11-only bugs are not prioritized anymore, though.

It’s definitely reproducible for me on a second user.

With a different wallpaper I figured out now: The bottom panel is actually 1 px hovering, while it shouldn’t. Only the case on X.Org.
UHD resolution with 162,5% HiDPI.

Adding the x11-only keyword
Comment 10 Fushan Wen 2025-02-25 23:47:37 UTC
There are a few fixes in Plasma and Qt. Is it still reproducible?

> There are a few fixes in Plasma and Qt. Is it still reproducible?

Yes, it’s still unfixed with:

KDE Plasma Version: 6.3.3
KDE Frameworks Version: 6.12.0
Qt Version: 6.8.2
Graphics Platform: X11

I’m unsure about weather I should change the status of this bug and to what.
