SUMMARY After a manual package upgrade in discover and installing the updates on reboot, the system becomes very laggy and behaves weird. STEPS TO REPRODUCE 1. Automatically install Updates enabled (weekly) 2. Install System Updates after reboot enabled 3. Session restore enabled 4. Manually update the system in discover (autoupdate doesnt work? -> https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=447245) 5. Reboot to install the Updates 6. log in OBSERVED RESULT kde log in process (going from login screen to the desktop) is very slow, the applications from the previous session start before the taskbar and everything is loaded, then it falls back to the kde start screen (kde logo and turning gear) for a few seconds, then the full desktop with the applications is shown. on the bottom right there is a notification "akonadi_migration_agent", firefox has opened from the session restore, keepassxc has opened from autostart. the system is usable but feels laggy, the akonadi_migration_agent notification doesnt go away, when using firefox and clicking on any of the menu bar buttons it becomes unresponsive for about 30-60 seconds, then the dropdown menu opens. When trying to shutdown, the system is stuck in the plymouth shutdown screen for a long time (i shut it off manually after 5 minutes). On next boot the system is working as usual. this already happened the second time now, 2nd time today, first time a month ago EXPECTED RESULT smooth update, without the described problems SOFTWARE/OS VERSIONS Linux/KDE Plasma: fedora 40 (available in About System) KDE Plasma Version: 6.1.0 (just updated to it) KDE Frameworks Version: 6.3.0 Qt Version: 6.7.1
Sorry this happened, but I'm afraid it's not actionable without some effort to debug what exactly is the cause of the lag. For example, is your CPU usage elevated? If so, what process is responsible? Are you out of memory? What's using it up? etc. Please to some debugging. If the results of this indicate a specific KDE product responsible, feel free to re-open this bug report. If you can't figure it out, asking the Fedora folks for help would be a sane next step.
