SUMMARY Since plasma 6.0.0, I have been experiencing this issue. Keyboard shortcuts for "some" (not all) system tray items don't work after boot until system tray gets a focus once. By "getting a focus", I meant clicking on the dropdown arrow (right-most button) on the tray and expand the tray panel. Some items I found that are affected by this bug (I believe this is not an exhaustive list) - Brightness and Color - Disk and Devices - Display configuration - Media player - Notifications - Weather report - Networks - Bluetooth Items I found that are NOT affected (also probably not exhaustive) - Audio Volume - Power and Battery - KDE connect STEPS TO REPRODUCE 1. Configure a keyboard shortcut to one of the affected item via widget configuration [Configure System tray...] button at the top strip of the expanded tray panel. 2. Reboot and login. 3. Press the key combination. EXPECTED RESULT Tray panel is expanded and opens corresponding item. OBSERVED RESULT Nothing happens. MORE STEPS TO CONTINUE 4. Click on the dropdown arrow on the tray to "give a focus" to the "System tray" widget. 5. Click on the desktop to close tray widget. 6. Press the key combination. EXPECTED RESULT Nothing happens, since the keyboard shortcut didn't work a few moments ago. OBSERVED RESULT Corresponding tray item is open. Can confirm, the reason seems to be that some of the widgets have even lost their ability to add shortcuts! But with Brightness and Color widget I was able to repro this bug. It works until plasmashell is restarted.
JFYI for any widgets that don't have their own settings page, you can always set a shortcut on the "Entries" page of the System Tray's own config window. I can reproduce the issue with all widgets tested.
Hah, I just figured that out.. But yes, can confirm the issue as well.
To add some info: Seems shortcuts work at start only for any visible elements.
I can confirm the three items I originally reported as not-affected are all pinned as always-shown. The affected items are either show-when-relevant or always-hidden.
