SUMMARY
Currently it is possible to "Toggle the HTML View" in a message by clicking the left-side bar or by finding and learning the Shift+H keyboard shortcut. Equally, it is possible to "Load External References" by clicking a link (should be a button!) in a helpful banner at the top of a message with references, or by finding and learning the Ctrl+Shift+R keyboard shortcut.

These actions should be hooked in the "View" menu. I contend they are at least as useful as configuring the attachement view style.
