Since upgrading from Debian oldstable (Bullseye running kate 20.12.2) to Debian stable (Bookworm running late 22.12.3) I find that about once a week when Kate starts it will clear all the files from my last session which is really inconvenient when I have several 10s of files open at the relevant places. My guess would be that newer versions of Kate are quite strict about removing files from the session if they are temporarily unavailable due to e.g. VPN dropouts or delays due to the SSH tunnel being used. Note that the session itself still exists within Kate, but all the files in it have been removed. My normal daily workflow is to start the VPN, add the sshfs mount, work for a day using Kate and then at the end of the day to close Kate, umount the sshfs mount and then shut down the VPN. Since everything is shut down in the correct order, Kate should still be able to access the files over the sshfs tunnel at the point where it is closed down. STEPS TO REPRODUCE 1. sshfs user@remote:/home/user /mnt/user 2. Start a Kate session using files from /mnt/user 3. Close Kate at the end of the day 4. Unmount the sshfs directory 5. Repeat daily until all open files have been removed from the current session OBSERVED RESULT About once a week the kate session removes all files from the last session used NOTE: if I select "Save Session" from the menu just before closing Kate, the problem is much more likely to occur. EXPECTED RESULT The last selected kate session should always maintain its list of open files, as it has done for many years before upgrading to current Debian stable (Bookworm). SOFTWARE/OS VERSIONS Windows: macOS: Linux/KDE Plasma: (available in About System) KDE Plasma Version: 5.27.5 KDE Frameworks Version: 5.103.0 Qt Version: 5.15.8 ADDITIONAL INFORMATION
Hi, I can not reproduce that with the current version. It might be in-deed broken in your version, but then the only fix is to try a new one. Perhaps the nightly appimage works on that distro, not sure https://kate-editor.org/get-it/
