I've seen this happen too. It seemed to happen to me whenever a task item, when right clicked, has some items listed in them.

Most notably I could repro this by modifying a task in KOrganizer.

Do you have "Calendar Events" enabled in your digital clock settings?

Please search for "plasma renderer" in KRunner or Kickoff and open the first search result. In the window that appears, are both comboboxes set to "Automatic?"

If not, please set them to "Automatic" and reboot; that will fix the issue.

Done this, will edit this comment if I see the behavior happening again, but so far it seems your advice worked. Thanks.

The bug still happens, albeit less commonly. So it may be related to Kwin's renderer and Nvidia's 555 driver.
