Description i 2024-05-20 05:24:49 UTC
Hi all,

I really liked the previous functionality that allowed saving multiple display settings and recently I noticed that this feature was removed by https://invent.kde.org/plasma/kscreen/-/commit/e84611e824ab89ba557148fabb2a50545eaca7b7, citing a lack of use cases. However, I believe there are strong use cases for this feature. For instance, on a laptops, to make the display properly, it is quite reasonable to use different resolutions or scale rates when connecting to various external monitors or not using any external monitor. Otherwise, users must manually adjust settings every time they connect or disconnect an external monitor, which can be very tedious.

I kindly request that this feature be restored. Thank you for your consideration.

Best regards

Can you be specific about the differences in resolutions and scale factors you use on your laptop when it's connected to external monitors vs not?

Sure. My internal 14-inch screen supports up to a 2240x1400 display. When I connect to a 24-inch external monitor, which has a 1920x1080 resolution, the content displayed on the internal screen becomes too small. To make the display fit the physical size of the monitors, I adjust the internal monitor resolution to 1440x900. However, when I take out the laptop and it is not connected to the external monitor, I prefer to restore the internal screen resolution to 2240x1400, otherwise, the content appears too large for me.
