screencast

I notice after clicking "add new widgets" the actual panel loads really slow.

There is noticeable lag between clicking the button and the whole panel swapping it.

Also the top "edit mode panel" sliding in and the "side add widget panel" sliding in seem to be kinda asynchronous and/or stuttery.

I created a nice little screencast to make it more clear.

I think it would be great to do like Firefox (on windows?) to load the empty container and the elements follow afterwards. It seems instead it doesnt load the popup until all the elements are loaded, fetching them takes resources so there is some lag.

Sounds like https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=460992

Are you using a HDD?
Comment 2 Henning 2024-05-13 15:00:08 UTC
no, a very fast NVME XD
Comment 3 duha.bugs 2024-05-13 20:04:47 UTC
Ohh :D

I cannot reproduce :/

Can you check your journald with journalctl -f and then click add new widgets and see if you can get any useful error message?

I already reported that other bug with the SVGs

I can't reproduce it either, and my laptop is getting to be pretty slow these days. Can you reproduce it with Plasma 6.1.4 and Frameworks 6.4, or newer?
Comment 6 TraceyC 2024-08-08 21:35:20 UTC
I have been seeing some choppiness in that animation on 6.1.3 (laptop and 2 external displays). It looks the same on my 6.1.3 system as in the attached video.

I do not see this slowness on git-master. Going into Add Widgets, the animation is smooth (and this system is older than the one running 6.1.3). I set the animation speed slower so I could see the it clearly.
Tested with just the laptop, and also with it plugged into an external monitor (so 2 displays)
Multiple applications were open, including a couple of Electron apps (which are more resource heavy)

Please still let us know if the animation is still slow on your system with Plasma 6.1.4 and Frameworks 6.4, or newer
