Is it asking you to connect to a specific Wi-Fi network? If so, it might be that you've setup Trusted networks in Settings to only allow your phone to connect using one more specific networks.
No it's just saying that I have to connect to a WiFi network, not a specific one. My Motorola Razr Plus doesn't have any trusted networks settings. It has thinkphone security enabled by default with no way to modify those settings. Yes, I believe KDE Connect only works when both devices are on the same network, which means you'll either need to be on the same WiFi network or (possibly) on a shared network like a VPN.
That's unfortunate but, understandable.
