Description pragma- 2024-05-02 06:28:59 UTC
SUMMARY
When I use the Razor Tool to add cuts to remove scenes and then Remove Space to remove the holes in the timeline, the rendered (Project -> Render) video has freeze frames lasting two seconds or so after each cut. This issue seems to only present itself when I use MPEG-TS video files as the source. It does not occur with MPEG-4 sources.

STEPS TO REPRODUCE
1. Add MPEG-TS source video to timeline
2. Use Razor Tool to add two cuts and then delete the scene between the cuts
3. Use Remove Space to remove the hole in the timeline

OBSERVED RESULT
In both timeline and final render, there is a 2 second or so freeze frame in the video immediately after the cuts.

EXPECTED RESULT
The final render should smoothly and fluidly play across cuts without any freeze frames.

SOFTWARE/OS VERSIONS
Windows: Windows 10 22H2 (19045.4291)
macOS:
Linux/KDE Plasma:
(available in About System)
KDE Plasma Version:
KDE Frameworks Version: 6.0.0
Qt Version: 6.6.2

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION
Using the OpenShot video editor with MPEG-TS sources, there is no freeze frame after cut scenes. I much prefer kdenlive's interface. Hopefully there is a solution that does not involve transcoding MPEG-TS to MPEG-4 for editing. If there is no obvious solution, perhaps the GNU licensed opensource OpenShot MPEG-TS library could be of use here?

I was given a suggestion to add preview render zone across the cut. This did not resolve the issue for me. It does not appear to be a performance issue but rather possibly a keyframing issue. The freeze-frame after each cut is present not just in the timeline but also in the final render (Project -> Render) .
