Description Patrick Silva 2024-05-01 15:37:04 UTC
SUMMARY
I can't reproduce this bug with all icons on my desktop, but several of them are affected.
I can reproduce with the icon of System Settings, for example.

STEPS TO REPRODUCE
1. add System Settings to desktop
2. rename System Settings icon on desktop to "System Settings asd"
3.

OBSERVED RESULT
the name of the icon renamed on desktop remains "System Settings". Restarting plasmashell process does not update the name of the icon. If I open the desktop folder with Dolphin, the name of the icon is "System Settings asd", as expected.

EXPECTED RESULT
the name of an icon on desktop should always be updated after renaming

SOFTWARE/OS VERSIONS
Operating System: Arch Linux
KDE Plasma Version: 6.0.4
KDE Frameworks Version: 6.1.0
Qt Version: 6.7.0
Graphics Platform: Wayland

Thanks for the bug report. It looks like this has been fixed in a newer version of Plasma. I was able to reproduce the bug with Plasma 6.1.3 but not with git-master, using the steps you provided. (I used the System Settings icon as well as a couple of others).

The fix will reach your system when your distro provides Plasma 6.2. Please feel free to re-open this report if you experience the same problem with that version.

This bug is still reproducible on neon unstable.

Operating System: KDE neon Unstable Edition
KDE Plasma Version: 6.1.80
KDE Frameworks Version: 6.6.0
Qt Version: 6.7.2
Graphics Platform: Wayland
Comment 3 Nate Graham 2024-10-22 19:16:12 UTC
How about with 6.2.1? I'm pretty sure I fixed this for the final release, and I can't reproduce it as originally described here.
Comment 4 Patrick Silva 2024-10-22 23:08:23 UTC
The bug persists. :(

Operating System: Arch Linux
KDE Plasma Version: 6.2.1
KDE Frameworks Version: 6.7.0
Qt Version: 6.8.0
Graphics Platform: Wayland
Comment 5 Nate Graham 2024-10-22 23:29:37 UTC
Darn. Can you attach a screen recording?

Comment 7 Nate Graham 2024-10-23 17:12:45 UTC
Thanks. Unfortunately I just can't reproduce that. :/ It looks like it's super common and easy to reproduce for you, but it doesn't happen to me at all.

Based on your understanding of the code, Akseli, do you have any ideas what might be going on here?
Comment 8 Nate Graham 2024-11-05 20:16:51 UTC
Will be interesting to know if it still keeps happening after https://invent.kde.org/plasma/plasma-desktop/-/merge_requests/2607 is merged. Hopefully within just a few days.
Comment 9 Nate Graham 2025-01-16 00:42:44 UTC
Is it fixed in git master/the Plasma 6.3 beta, Patrick?
Comment 10 Patrick Silva 2025-01-16 00:49:38 UTC
Can reproduce on Plasma 6.3 beta with the same steps.

Operating System: Arch Linux
KDE Plasma Version: 6.2.90
KDE Frameworks Version: 6.10.0
Qt Version: 6.9.0
Graphics Platform: Wayland
Comment 11 Nate Graham 2025-01-16 17:40:43 UTC
This doesn't make any sense to me! :(
Comment 12 TraceyC 2025-01-16 19:50:44 UTC
I'm not able to reproduce this on git-master. Using the same method in the attached screen recording, I created icons and renamed for
- Discover
- System Settings
- ~/Music
- A custom shortcut to an Obsidian Notes vault

Just to explore any detail that might be different, how exactly did yo create the shortcut to System Settings (for example)?
I dragged it from the App Menu (Kicker) to the desktop, and then chose "Link Here"
I also tried right clicking the entry in the App Menu and choosing "Add to Desktop"
Comment 13 Patrick Silva 2025-01-16 21:36:55 UTC
I have just tried both methods you mentioned; can reproduce in both cases. I use kickoff instead of Kicker.
Comment 14 TraceyC 2025-01-17 17:43:57 UTC
Just to confirm, are you speaking of the legacy Kickoff menu? If so, how did you install it?
Through here https://store.kde.org/p/1468103 ?
Comment 15 Patrick Silva 2025-01-17 18:41:06 UTC
I'm talking about the default apps launcher of Plasma.

I can reproduce against git master.

While System Settings works correctly, I can reproduce with others like Lutris.
