How spacers in Oxygen appear now

Hi

It seems that the returning spacers feature do not appear correctly in Oxygen, instead of a blank space, the spacer is an empty button

I have attached a screenshot, as I think it describes the issue better

For this, I attempted https://invent.kde.org/plasma/oxygen/-/merge_requests/55
It seems to look the way they did in KDE 4
