Description Rena Kunisaki 2024-04-26 16:08:35 UTC
SUMMARY

Installing some larger apps such as Blender consistently fails due to the download timing out.

STEPS TO REPRODUCE
1. Open Discover
2. Select Blender
3. Click Install

OBSERVED RESULT
Progress reaches about 70% then fails with "timeout reached" error.

EXPECTED RESULT
Successful install.

SOFTWARE/OS VERSIONS
Linux/KDE Plasma: Artix Linux x86_64 Rolling Release (X11; Kernel: 6.8.7-artix1-1 64-bit)
KDE Plasma Version: 6.0.4
KDE Frameworks Version: 6.1.0
Qt Version: 6.7.0

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION
I have the same problem with pacman, but if I add "--disable-download-timeout" the downloads will succeed. I don't know what the underlying issue is (ISP being flaky?) but if there's some way to change/remove Discover's timeout - or if it kept the partial downloads instead of retrying from the beginning every time - I'd be able to work around the issue here too.

Just to clarify: this happens with the blender **flatpak**? Not the version from packagekit

It happens with any sufficiently large package. I'm not at that system right now to double-check which one I was trying to install, but probably either one would do it.

What information is needed?
Comment 5 Harald Sitter 2024-05-28 06:21:18 UTC
Does it happen with

- the flatpak version
- the packagekit version
- both
Comment 6 Rena Kunisaki 2024-05-28 14:23:39 UTC
The only button is "install from flathub" so I guess it's flatpak? I'm not sure how to check. There's only one Blender listed.
Comment 7 Harald Sitter 2024-05-29 07:42:25 UTC
Does the flatpak CLI tool also have this problem?

It's hard to be sure because the issue doesn't happen every time (relies on some upstream networking problem), but it looks like no. I tried installing com.play0ad.zeroad (since I already installed Blender using pacman) and it appeared to have the same behaviour, where the connection suddenly slows down, but the download didn't abort and eventually finished successfully at the point where the GUI (and pacman without --disable-download-timeout) likely would have gave up.
