SUMMARY I just upgraded Fedora 39 to Fedora 40. When I lggen in to the kde plasma 6 session after upgrade and run the kmail 2 application, my IMAP account is offline and cannot be switched online. There is no reaction on clicking "Click here to switch to online" (sorry if not properly translated, I see it in Slovak). STEPS TO REPRODUCE 1. Upgrade Fedora 39 to Fedora 40. 2. Login to plasma 6 session and run kmail2. 3. Try to switch IMAP resource online. OBSERVED RESULT IMAP resource is not switched to online after clicking. No change after click. EXPECTED RESULT The IMAP resource should be online without needing to click anything. SOFTWARE/OS VERSIONS Fedora 40 with latest updates. ADDITIONAL INFORMATION
I just tried to clear akonadi cache from kmail2 menu. I received notofication that IMAP resource and local folders resource are corrupt. What could be the problem?
Some interesting parts from Akonadi.error file: 2024-04-26T16:24:24 [INFO ] org.kde.pim.akonadiserv2024-04-26T16:24:25 [INFO ] org.kde.pim.akonadicontrol: Akonadi server is now operational. 2024-04-26T16:24:25 [CRITICAL] org.kde.pim.akonadiserver: Cannot connect to agent instance with identifier 'akonadi_imap_resource_8', error message: '' 2024-04-26T16:26:51 [WARN ] org.kde.pim.akonadiserver: ItemRetrievalJob for request 17 finished with error: "Unable to retrieve item from resource: Nemôžete vybrať položku v offline móde." 2024-04-26T16:26:51 [WARN ] org.kde.pim.akonadiserver: Handler exception when handling command FetchItems on connection MessageViewer-94821059623520 (0x558219bb0170) : Unable to fetch item from backend (collection -1) : Unable to retrieve item from resource: Nemôžete vybraÅ¥ položku v offline móde.
Hello, is there some debug possible. I cannot imagine where I can start. Why the resource is offline and how to make it try to connect? Thanks Marek
It seems to be an akonadi problem. When running akonadiconsole I see many resources offline. I am not able to make them back online. Maybe akonadi thinks there is no network connection or something like that? How does it detect such things? Thanks Marek
I just found bug 484706. It seems to be the same. Quite a long time nobody looked at it. Is it worth to use such software? Marek
Hmm, also korganizer is offline. so it is definitely akonadi bug, not kmail. Marek
Same here also with latest updates (akonadi-1.13.0-126.fc40.x86_64).
Hello, I just found a workaround for the problem. When I remove NetworkManager-config-connectivity-fedora package everything works like a charm. I cannot imagine how could akonadi developer consider all the resources unreachable, even resources in the local network when some specific Internet connectivity check fails. This should be fixed ASAP. Thanks Marek
This happened to me as well after upgrading to Plasma 6 on my Gentoo Linux. It seemed that kmail/akonadi were mistakenly paused due to lack of Internet connection despite an Internet connection was available and working. I tried to clear caches, recreate the akonadi database and e-mail accounts multiple times to no avail. Later (while debugging an unrelated plasma issue) I discovered that the following command makes the e-mail synchronization work again when this happens: > killall --wait plasmashell && plasmashell
Hello Kamil, unfortunately this command would definitely not help me. The problem in my environment is that the machines do not have direct access to the internet, only using proxy. The email server is in local network, so no internet needed. But the akonadi performs internet connectivity check and denies also connections to the local services for which internet is not needed. After uninstalling the mentioned package the check is not performed any more. Marek
