SUMMARY Plasma should have the option to have a transparent color (or gradient) overlay the desktop image plugin. This tinting feature was in KDE3, but was removed during the upgrade to KDE4. Why? I have a nice wallpaper of clouds (1), but it would be absolutely perfect if it was slightly darker. If plasma drew black/dark-grey (or some other color of choice) at 25% opacity (or other desired value) over the image, I wouldn't have to make a separate image to achieve the same effect. KDE3 also had a setting for tinting with gradients. This could make the bottom of the wallpaper darker than the top for example. But if gradients are no longer possible then fair enough. STEPS TO REPRODUCE 1. right click desktop 2. click Configure Desktop and Wallpaper OBSERVED RESULT The setting to add sedate tinting to the desktop image has been removed. EXPECTED RESULT The setting to add sedate tinting is available. If memory serves the location for the tinting option was between what is now "background" (blur/color selection) and the image selection box, so that would be just above the image selection box.
Sure, seems possible.
I'm sorry to be annoying, but why not do this by editing the image? Even for out-of-the-box wallpapers, there's a button to get the source file, and adding a tint is rather easy. I know a button would be more convenient, but it would be a very niche feature and it would crowd an already quite busy setting page, which is also very commonly used. I don't think it's worth adding an option specifically for this when it's particularly easy to "fix" it in the wallpaper itself.
