SUMMARY Applications can still produce sounds as normal while the KDE environment does not produce any sound anymore. Meaning that events like low battery, plugging/unplugging devices, notifications, changing sound volume, errors and others doesn't make any sounds (without deactivating the corresponding sounds). STEPS TO REPRODUCE 1. Be on Plasma with sound enable. 2. Listen to a sound coming from an application (like a music and video) and make sure you can heard the sound of it. (If you can not heard any sound it means you have an other issue unrelated to this bug.) 3. Now, listen to a sound coming from KDE (like changing the volume, plugging unplugging USB, etc) and find that you hear nothing. 4. Try changing the system sound (System settings > Appearance and style > Color and themes > System sound) and see that none of them can work (None among Océan, Oxygen, FreeDesktop). OBSERVED RESULT KDE environment does not produce any sound anymore, while applications still can. EXPECTED RESULT KDE should be able to produce sounds depending on various events. Those sounds must be able to be activated, deactivated and customized. SOFTWARE/OS VERSIONS Operating System: KDE neon 6.0 KDE Plasma Version: 6.0.3 KDE Frameworks Version: 6.0.0 Qt Version: 6.7.0 Kernel Version: 6.5.0-27-generic (64-bit) Graphics Platform: Wayland ADDITIONAL INFORMATION I don't know if this bug come from plasma-pa, pulseaudio-qt or from something else. I can't put multiple possibilities so I have selected "plasma-pa" as product for the bug. I have deactivated one or two sounds and try changing some of them (don't know if they are all back to default) so I don't know if customization as an effect or is the cause of this issue.
Some info : I do not have "Do not disturb" activated. I have sounds of notification activated (above audio themes). The "Front left","Front right" audio test works as normal (I heard those sounds). Every "theme audio test" and "specific sound use test" (from icons in audio theme and from individual notification audio customization) does not works.
My little idea : When I watch where audio files from KDE are, there are a lot of links. Maybe KDE has some difficulty to follow links path or read the sound from them.
I have seen another laptop also using KDE neon on the latest version (all available update done except just a grub update because of a bug I didn't succeed to fix) but not having this bug. I don't know what differentiate my computer from this other one.
Created attachment 169154 [details] System settings says that sound customization are on default It seems that KDE System Settings says that my sound customization are back to default, according to this option (see screenshot). And the bug is still present. Maybe this just indicate the main sound theme to default, not if some individual sound changes have been made. Clicking on any of the button of sound theme doesn't produce any sound.
Dilam and I talked about this in the KDE Matrix chat and I was able to reproduce his issue. Here's my report of it in case there is any confusion. SUMMARY KDE Connect sound notifications don't work. STEPS TO REPRODUCE 1. Go to System Settings, Notifications, Application Settings, KDE Connect. 2. Enable and choose a sound for one of the notifications listed, for example "Text Received". 3. Press the play button to test it and see that the sound is properly played. 4. With your phone connected via KDE Connect, receive a text message. OBSERVED RESULT The popup notification appears, but no sound is played. EXPECTED RESULT I expected the sound I set to play to play and be heard. SOFTWARE/OS VERSIONS Operating System: EndeavourOS KDE Plasma Version: 6.1.4 KDE Frameworks Version: 6.5.0 Qt Version: 6.7.2 Kernel Version: 6.10.6-zen1-1-zen Graphics Platform: Xorg ADDITIONAL INFORMATION I think this ticket does have the incorrect category and should be in the KDE notification system instead, I could be wrong.
I can confirm this using JT Hundley's instructions with Plasma 6.2 and setting a sound for "Ping Received". Note that you may need to manually set a sound file to play in order to have one that should play. In any case, the sound does not play.
Might be that the "Notification Sounds" channel is muted or very low on the "Audio" settings? There is also a bug where this slider might not appear on some circumstances, hiding the issue, but in this case it can be activated using pavucontrol: https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=482943
(In reply to Ismael Asensio from comment #7) > Might be that the "Notification Sounds" channel is muted or very low on the > "Audio" settings? I have it set to 100%.
> The popup notification appears, but no sound is played. I am somewhat certain that the sound setting will only apply on a new login. It's certainly that way when you have konsole running, then give a sound to active session bell, then hit [Tab] in the open konsole window. Restarting konsole makes the sound play correctly. Can you make sure this in fact doesn't work after a new login?
My Android KDE Connect app is crashing on launch now, I can't test it. Are you able to test @Dilam?

"Notification Sounds" was not visible in System settings (when bug reported). But it's currently back. Notifications Sounds was muted. When unmuted, kde sounds works again. So the issue is fixed on my side !
> Yes it was that. "Notification Sounds" was not visible in System settings (when bug reported). (I don't remember the settings, so maybe the level of Notification Sounds was present but not if being muted.) At the time of the bug, I am certain to have looked at everything related to sounds in system settings and settings of notifications (all default UI but no terminal commands).
Created attachment 174500 [details] What should and for me has now fixed the bug I haven't touched at Konsole to fix the bug. I have login again in my computer and it was in settings, don't know yet if it's not present just after the first boot but this is an other issue. When I modify the setting it apply immediately (without having to log in again). Operating System: KDE neon 6.0 KDE Plasma Version: 6.1.5 KDE Frameworks Version: 6.6.0 Qt Version: 6.7.2 Kernel Version: 6.8.0-45-generic (64-bit) Graphics Platform: Wayland If on your side the issue is also immediately fixed when having access to the setting, this bug can be marked as fixed.
In a terminal run the following run0 dnf install -y git run0 dnf builddep -y pulseaudio-qt git clone https://invent.kde.org/libraries/pulseaudio-qt.git cd pulseaudio-qt cmake -S . -B build -DBUILD_WITH_QT6=ON cmake --build build LD_LIBRARY_PATH=`pwd`/build/bin QT_LOGGING_RULES=org.kde.pulseaudio=true kded6 --replace Then trigger the volume keys. It should print messages containing "Changing volume of Sink...". Those I am interested in. To restore the default behavior simply logout and in again.
Disregard. Wrong bug report :)

The original bug report is fixed (this one was not about KDE connect and was covering more things). About KDE connect notifications (it should have been an other bug report instead of being mixed with the first). My KDE connect works and I don't receive any sound from this type of notification (when I make the configuration to receive android notification). On new login, I don't have KDE connect notification's sounds either. About changing the product of the bug report, I don't find "KDE notificaiton system", "KDEnotif", "Knotif" or "notifications system" in the list of product. This list is absolutely horrible to deal with.
If there is another bug then please file a separate report.
(In reply to Harald Sitter from comment #18) > If there is another bug then please file a separate report. I'm renaming this bug to what it was originally. The second bug has been reported in Bug 492195. So please move to this bug report for KDE connect not making sound.
