visual of krunner and text auto insert

SUMMARY

I have to manually hit backspace to remove text from krunner.

expected behavior: it should just clear out text or have it highlighted to allow for "write over" so that the new text I enter wipes out old text.

Hard to reproduce, not sure what triggers it because it doesn't happen all the time...but I think its when I highlight text.

1. Highlight some random text from web browser
2. Call krunner
3. Observe behavior
4. esc and call krunner again, and NOW it highlights all the text for overwrite....which should be intended behavior initially.

Sounds like you could benefit from using the history settings visible by clicking on the settings button on KRunner. Can you see if you can find a setting that meets your needs there?

Those settings didn't change any behavior. I turned off all plugins except app launcher and still the issue persisted. But I can ask if a recent update fixed it.

Go ahead and try again with 6.04 I guess.

Comment 8 profetiktriple7 2024-05-25 16:25:50 UTC
ORIGINAL TITLE:
Krunner randomly forces you to backspace-remove text to clear out text(edit)

New Title:
Reassigning Keyboard Shortcut doesn't get reassigned when using "Ctl + Space" to launch krunner as new keyboard shortcut.

DETAILS:

The original "Ctl+ Space" keyboard shortcut retains the function of copy clipboard from text and auto-inserts into Krunner despite attempt to reassign.

See image:
https://bugs.kde.org/attachment.cgi?id=169822

Still a bug - but not a major one.
Comment 9 profetiktriple7 2024-11-28 18:49:28 UTC
RESOLVED: (at least for Kubuntu)

In order to keep from clipboard contents from auto-inserting into Krunner, you must find the following setting:

"Run command on clipboard contents" and delete any keyboard associations that are interfering with the "CTL+SPACE" krunner shortcut.

krunner menu to disable "Runn command on clipboard contents".

When you search Krunner in the menu- it CUTS OFF this section.

If you click thru to this setting, then everything in the krunner section is visable, like this sub-section at the bottom.
Comment 11 profetiktriple7 2024-11-28 18:56:44 UTC
After you assign CTL SPACE under keyboard shortcuts, you must go to

KRUNNER settings and disable the "Run command on clipboard", since that is ALSO set to CTL SPACE by default. Once you remove that, it works as intented since CTL SPACE is "released" to ONLY run krunner, and NOT krunner + clipboard autoinsert.
