in DK8.3 : auto tag is available from BQM. It generate automatic tags from the picture and assign them to the picture

What would be useful is to be able to select tags from our current tags list and assign them to the pictures

assignment to be done on the generated pictures , just wondering if it would be possible to assign the same on the input picture as well.

I don't understand exactly what you mean in the bug report. If you want the tags to be assigned to the original image, you have to select in the BQM settings under Behavior that the file can be overwritten. Then no new file will be created.
But this is general behavior of the BQM.
