Comment 1 pf 2024-03-19 11:53:20 UTC
another crash.
restart and crash about 2 seconds later
after a few of these, started "plasmashell -d" and no crash, so shutdown apps and rebooted
Comment 2 Nate Graham 2024-04-11 01:11:50 UTC
If something crashed, we need a backtrace of it so we can figure out what's going on. Can you please attach a backtrace of the crash using the coredumpctl command-line program, as detailed in https://community.kde.org/Guidelines_and_HOWTOs/Debugging/How_to_create_useful_crash_reports#Retrieving_a_backtrace_using_coredumpctl?
Comment 3 pf 2024-04-12 14:37:23 UTC
After I reported this, I switched back to KDE/X11. In the past few weeks, crashes occurred many times per hour with under 2 seconds to restart automatically; but the moving app windows onto the left-most screen became too much. So I returned to KDE/Wayland and it seems more stable (after less than 24 hours).
Marking WORKSFORME until it occurs again and is reproducible.
Comment 4 pf 2024-04-15 19:11:27 UTC
Switched back to KDE/Wayland because KDE/X11 has become intolerable.
$ coredumpctl --reverse
No coredumps found.

Sigh... Walked away from the system, returned to find taskbar gone again 20 minutes after restarting it.
Comment 6 Nate Graham 2024-04-26 16:59:36 UTC
From the journal log, it looks like KWin crashed and somehow took down Plasma with it, which is odd as that's not supposed to be happening in Plasma 6 (and it's not happening for me).

Regardless, now we need to know why KWin crashed. For that, we need a backtrace of the crash for the kwin_wayland process. You may be able to retrieve it with coredumpctl. See https://community.kde.org/Guidelines_and_HOWTOs/Debugging/How_to_create_useful_crash_reports#Retrieving_a_backtrace_using_coredumpctl

Ok, then I'm afraid there is nothing we can do about this. :(
