SUMMARY Icons position on the desktop get reset whenever one monitor gets disconnected. I have 2 monitors, both same resolution and refresh rate (2560x1440, 120Hz). One on the left is primary. Using X11 STEPS TO REPRODUCE 1. Shut off the left monitor after placing icons on the desktop a certain way. Primary monitor switches and icons stay in place. 2. Turn the monitor back on OBSERVED RESULT The icons are reset and arranged as per the menu, in my case, left to right. And even though they are supposed to be unsorted, they are alphabetically sorted. EXPECTED RESULT Icons should stay as they were placed SOFTWARE/OS VERSIONS Linux/KDE Plasma: (available in About System) KDE Plasma Version: KDE Frameworks Version: Qt Version: ADDITIONAL INFORMATION I've used both scripts and Display Configuration. When using DC, I can see that the 2 monitors seem to "merge" for a short moment (as if they're both at the same position), before going back to whatever i setup. For example, I disable the monitor, enable it, put the left monitor position 0,0, primary, the right one is at position 2560,0. After clicking apply, the monitors flash, both show at 0,0, icons get scrambled, position is restored as per the settings. Using both xrandr or kscreen-doctor in a script will result in the same bug. Additionally,
I have the same problem with openSUSE Tumbleweed, KDE 6.0.2. This was a log staying problem with KDE 5 but it was mostly solved for the last half year or so. But now it seems back to the starting point. Additionally there are bugs in multi-monitor handling which were already solved in KDE5, and also new ones. I will report these separately.
There are multiple bugs describing the same or similar behavior for icon positioning on the desktop not being saved. I'm using 468546 as the main one. *** This bug has been marked as a duplicate of bug 468546 ***
