SUMMARY *** NOTE: If you are reporting a crash, please try to attach a backtrace with debug symbols. See https://community.kde.org/Guidelines_and_HOWTOs/Debugging/How_to_create_useful_crash_reports *** From the Application Launcher right clicking any application shows options Pin to Task Manager and Add to Desktop, but not Add to Panel as used to be available in Plasma 5 before updating to Plasma 6. Choosing Pin to Task Manager then the icon does then go on the panel, but whereas all the previous icons I added when running Plasma 5 can be moved to different positions on the panel, such as next to the System tray, in panel edit mode - with the newly added icon in plasma 6 I can't then move the newly added icon to where the set of old ones is located on the panel - previously I could just go into edit mode and click on the icon and slide it to the right. That no longer works for me presumably because it is pinned to the Task Manager rather than simply being added to the panel? STEPS TO REPRODUCE 1. Go to Application launcher and choose an application 2. Right click - only option is to Pin to Task Manager, but not Add to Panel 3. If Pin to Task Manager is executed then the icon cannot be slid to the desired position on the panel in edit mode. OBSERVED RESULT Icon stays pinned to Task Manager but can't be moved to another local within the panel EXPECTED RESULT Icon should be movable to anywhere on the panel in edit mode SOFTWARE/OS VERSIONS Linux/KDE Plasma: Arch Linux Plasma 6.0.0-1 (available in About System) KDE Plasma Version: 6.0.0-1 KDE Frameworks Version: 6.0.0-1 Qt Version: 6.6.2-1 ADDITIONAL INFORMATION
I am running Plasma 6 in Wayland though presume that would not affect this issue, if the desktop was x11
I'm afraid this was an intentional change for Plasma 6. The distinction between launcher widgets and pinned apps is subtle and confused the heck out of a lot of people. We reasoned that while your panel has a Task Manager on it that's capable of having pinned apps on it, that's the most natural thing for people to want to use. If that doesn't describe you, that's fine, but then you'll just have to create the launchers manually by dragging them from Kicker/Kickoff to the position on the panel where you want them to live.
Thank you - I wasn't aware that you can drag the icon directly from the kicker to the panel at any desired location - that does solve what I would want to do so this can be marked as solved.
