Description reescf 2024-03-12 21:42:32 UTC
SUMMARY

If the panel is left in its default floating state on X11, it cannot be used to e.g. launch applications except by entering edit mode.

STEPS TO REPRODUCE
1. Leave panel floating (default following upgrade) in an X11 session.
2. Try to e.g. launch an application, interact with a widget/applet etc. with the panel etc. locked.

OBSERVED RESULT
Attempt fails. The only way to successfully interact that I've found is to switch into edit mode. It is then possible to e.g. launch an application. This also ends edit mode, so you need to reenter it to launch a different application or use a widget or whatever.

EXPECTED RESULT
Application should launch or widget should behave in expected way when *not* in edit mode. (In edit mode, I don't expect them to work, so this is particularly weird.)

Can you please attach a screen recording that shows the issue happening?

Effect of trying to open an application from the panel when it is floating and also effect of secondary click.

Note that in addition to the panel floating, focus has to be on an application rather than the desktop when I try to interact with the panel.

I've never tried to record screen interaction before - I didn't even know what software to install - so it is surely longer and larger than necessary. Sorry about that. (This was my third attempt, but still poor.)

This is starting to look like Bug 483188.

Do you have an AMD GPU and/or multiple screens?
