Showcase of my issue.

SUMMARY
Hey, have had this issue since yesterday. On the Panel at the bottom of the Screen, when i hover over the programs their icons get put to the far left of the screen.

I sadly have no clue how to reproduce this bug. As it happened randomly.

OBSERVED RESULT
All icons including the ones in the system tray get put to the left side of the Panel.

EXPECTED RESULT
All icons should remain where they are supposed to be.

Fixed!

going into kcmshell6 qtquicksettings and then changing Rendering Background to Open GL fixed it.

This fix also worked for me, although the issue still seems to persist on latest versions released to Arch. I reset my workspace by deleting the .config files and still had this issue after updating + rebooting.

I just encountered this too.

I think the root cause is likely the fact that if Plasma encounters an error while initializing OpenGL, it sets the rendering backend to software: https://github.com/KDE/plasma-workspace/blob/master/shell/main.cpp#L172

So if you're have graphics driver issues (not uncommon with Nvidia, especially after a kernel upgrade), it'll fall back to software rendering and write that setting to the config. I don't see any code that reverts it back to automatic mode - the diff that added the code explicitly says that it permanently changes to software mode: https://phabricator.kde.org/D11722

IMO, ideally a fallback to software mode would only persist for the current session, and it should switch back to automatic afterwards.

Is anyone still having this issue with Plasma 6.2.4? There have been a bunch of bug fixes regarding the panel.
If you're still seeing this bug, please set the status back to REPORTED. Thanks!
