SUMMARY *** After an update to Plasma 6.0.0, my login session in SDDM became wayland instead of the x session I always use. This highlighted a bunch of bugs in Wayland I purposefully did not want to deal with because Wayland doesn't work. *** STEPS TO REPRODUCE 1. Use Neon 5.x with X login sessions (not Wayland) 2. Update Neon from 5.x (latest) to 6.0.0 3. Reboot and log in from SDDM without changing anything OBSERVED RESULT You're in a Wayland session EXPECTED RESULT You're in an X session. SOFTWARE/OS VERSIONS Operating System: KDE neon 6.0 KDE Plasma Version: 6.0.0 KDE Frameworks Version: 6.0.0 Qt Version: 6.6.2 Kernel Version: 6.5.0-21-generic (64-bit) Graphics Platform: X11 Processors: 8 × Intel® Core™ i7-10510U CPU @ 1.80GHz Memory: 46.7 GiB of RAM Graphics Processor: Mesa Intel® UHD Graphics Manufacturer: LENOVO Product Name: 20RYS0M100 System Version: ThinkPad T490 ADDITIONAL INFORMATION A DE should not override existing user preferences. That's a Windows thing. :p
This was an intentional decision. You're welcome to continue using X11 though. Technically we weren't overriding anyone's preferences, just changing the default setting--not a thing any user actually made a decision about. If your preference happened to line up with the old default setting, just change it back.
