Created attachment 166429 [details] The result after the step. SUMMARY This only apply to qt app (konsole, kate, systemsetting,...) that are tiled (or custom tiled) and are touching the side on which the panel is on. After editing (even doing no change) and closing edit mode of an auto-hide panel all windows (with above criteria) are now resized to avoid the panel (as if the panel was always visible). NOTE This only apply on one of the 2 way to tile at a time (edge-tiling or custom tiling). STEPS TO REPRODUCE 1. Add a auto-hide / dodge windows panel 2. Open a qt app an tile it to touch the border on which the panel rest 3. Right click -> enter edit mode 4. Exit edit mode OBSERVED RESULT App open that touched the panel now have a gap from the panel (but can be resized to normal). EXPECTED RESULT App shouldn't change size. SOFTWARE/OS VERSIONS Operating System: Arch Linux KDE Plasma Version: 6.0.0 KDE Frameworks Version: 6.0.0 Qt Version: 6.7.0 Kernel Version: 6.7.8-arch1-1 (64-bit) Graphics Platform: Wayland
NOTE 2: I think it is caused by the change that made panel not auto-hide when in edit-mode (to allow for adding widget).
Cannot reproduce; it works as expected for me with a left and bottom screen edge panels.
It work as expected on Neon Stable wayland. But on two different machine (intel and amd graphics) this happen on Arch install. Maybe it is a problem with Qt 6.7 beta (?).
UPDATE: it seem that neon stable does not have the change that made panel not auto-hide when in edit-mode (to allow for adding widget, meaning that in kde neon if i click on add widget the widget pop up and the panel hide), which i still think is the change that introduced the bug.
UPDATE UPDATE: it seem to be reproducable also on kde neon but there it require the panel to be custom sized. Also there after enabling custom size the panel act normal but tiling act as if the panel is always visible. Sorry for the spam but I continue to find new things after sending comment, it seem somewhat inconsistent this bug.
Updating on 6.0.1 on Arch package fixed the issue.
Created attachment 170012 [details] Step and result in plasma 6.1 The bug is still present and now i have step that are more consistent In plasma 6.1 (needed): 1. vertically maximize one or more app 2. click one of the app to focus 3. open PANEL edit mode 4. press the DONE button in the new panel setting RESULT: some app (expecially qt ones) change size. It is random (about 3/4 of times it works) and affect random vertically maximized app. INFO: Operating System: Arch Linux KDE Plasma Version: 6.0.90 KDE Frameworks Version: 6.2.0 Qt Version: 6.7.1 Kernel Version: 6.9.2-arch1-1 (64-bit) Graphics Platform: Wayland Graphics Processor: AMD Radeon Graphics
Thanks. Unfortunately I still cannot reproduce the issue when I reproduce the steps shown in your screen exactly with NeoChat, Elisa, Telegram, Dolphin, Kate, or Konsole.
Sorry to report, but this bug is still present in the today git master branch (6.2 dev). It may be even easier to obtain with same step as before (happens 100% of the time on konsole, kate, dolphin).
I can replicate this (or something similar) cleanly on current Neon Dev, but not for properly (vertically) maximized/tiled windows, only for ones maximized/tiled manually. 1. Start from an empty profile/new user. Probably not necessary, but the cleanest. 2. Panel, Show Configuration, set Visibility to Autohide 3. Exit Edit mode by clicking Done 4. Open Konsole (I used alt-space, konsole) 5. Drag the window to the top right, but do not let it tile 6. Resize the window to span the whole vertical area 7. Move the mouse toward the bottom to unhide the panel, right click, Show Panel Configuration 8. Click done. The Konsole window now no longer spans the whole area, but is shortened by the panel width. (If you now move the window down to touch the bottom screen edge, then repeat 7 and 8, the window keeps its size, but is moved back to the top.) This seems to work 100% of the time, but also affects Firefox windows, not only Qt ones.
You are right with your step the same happens on with firefox (and with xournalpp and i image more). But if i simply maximize or if i vertically maximize or tile or custom tile this only happens to qt applications.
Unfortunately, I can't replicate this with actually maximized or tiled applications at all, and I spent quite a bit of effort trying to do so. It might only appear with certain other settings, or on certain hardware/displays etc.
After further testing, my replication steps only work on Wayland, not X11. They also only seem to affect bottom panels, left-hand and top panels do not cause the applications to resize.
Yeah it only happens on wayland. And not for top bar (considering your step).
Seem to be fixed in 6.4.80 (possibly before), if the bug represent itself, i'll reopen it
