SUMMARY
Ghosts are populating the contacts list.

Ghosts are entries in the contacts list that show up with empty JIDs or nicknames and an icon showing a circle with an arch to the left below it and a no-entry road-sign on the right below the circle. There can be more ghosts than users registered on the server. My impression is that the number of ghosts is increasing, but I'm not sure. I deleted some but more ghosts have come back after that. None of Gajim, Dino and Conversations show any ghosts.

This happens with prosody as well as with ejabberd.

STEPS TO REPRODUCE
1. log in to your favourite xmpp server
2. perhaps quit kopete and log in again and do that a few times, until ghosts show up

OBSERVED RESULT
Ghosts show up in the contacts list.

EXPECTED RESULT
There shouldn't be any ghosts in the contacts list.

kopete is unmaintained and no longer released. Please consider picking another XMPP client. (kaidan, psi+, gajim are likely available in all distributions)

Thanks, I'll use another xmpp client.

Kopete is still listed on https://apps.kde.org/ which I used to find an xmpp client that uses QT and thus fits in nicely. Perhaps it is a good idea to remove it from there, or at least to indicate that it is derelict.
