SUMMARY Testing plasma 6 using arch's testing repositories. If you add the gpu usage and memory columns in the processes page of system monitor. They seem to be blank. I am on a nvidia gpu if that is effecting things. Seems similar to this bug https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=466502. However, in that one the user is reporting how it is showing the wrong thing instead of nothing and I am using text only instead of the charts that that user mentioned. STEPS TO REPRODUCE 1. Open system monitor. 2. Navigate to the processes page. 3. Edit columns 4. Add the gpu usage and memory columns OBSERVED RESULT These fields are blank at least they are on my nvidia rtx 3080 EXPECTED RESULT They should report similar numbers to the nvtop program. Upon review I see that the kwin_wayland process is showing a percentage for gpu usage and gpu memory and plasma-systemmonitor is showing a percentage for gpu usage but not gpu memory. Those are the only two processes showing anything for those two columns.

For processes it should be nvidia-smi pmon if that is also 0 everywhere else, it means things are really 0.

I can see in nvtop that stable diffusion is using about 2 gigs worth of vram, but nothing in system monitor.
We rely on what nvidia-smi reports. Not sure where nvtop gets the info.
Another thing I am noticing is that the process kwin_wayland is reporting 40% gpu usage and 35% gpu memory usage. These numbers aren't changing. While nvtop and cpu-x are reporting different numbers as the amount of graphics usage and memory changes. I was suspicious of this so I restarted system monitor. Now kwin_wayland reports nothing while firefox is reporting an unmoving 20% gpu usage and 15% memory usage. The numbers don't appear to be updating at all. While the vast majority of process that nvtop reports as using some amount of gpu resources report nothing.

Understandable, I took a look at their github page and I believe they use the nvml library directly. Supposedly the same library that nvidia-smi uses. Perhaps the formatted output command is somehow messed up?
Or are these values just too small to bother reporting a percentage above zero?
If it's stable_diffusion maybe there is a distinction between compute and graphics?

I thought about that, but since the gpu usage doesn't seem to be updating either. I couldn't confirm it, by closing stable diffusion while system monitor was open.

Another thing I tried was opening and closing system monitor in between running stable diffusion to see if the results would be different, but it did not appear to have any effect on the reported values in system monitor.
Gonna close this, after reading the man pages and help pages for nvidia-smi. It clearly shows more useful information when running nvidia-smi by it itself rather than when running it in process monitor mode. That isn't a problem for kde to solve.
