Created attachment 166320 [details] Example of the conundrum with miss matching directory names and contents SUMMARY *** So reason I didn't put this in critical is there is not a crash of the program. But with a specific archive of mine, which I made using Nanazip on Windows, brought to linux and have had zero issues with for multiple days untill 5pm on the 2nd of March. Atlantic time. But this is a 3.6 or so gb archive full of folders containing mods for a Java program called Starsector. Whenever I extract a folder via clicking and dragging the extracted folder is sometimes missing subfolders, and containing folders with broken names missing files which are in the folder containing the subfolder they should belong in also with broken names. So obvious decompression errors with repeated words and the likes in file and folder names. The thing is, when I do things the long way with the GUI or right click or what be it. No issues at all. So I did a few things, Restarted computer. No luck. Uninstalled and reinstalled Ark. Restarted computer. No luck. Made a copy of this archive to test with the copy. No luck Moved the original archive to see if moving it would fix the problem. No luck. Now the real voodoo is it is JUST this archive, and JUST now. I have no idea how to reproduce this without giving you folks the archive in question. *** STEPS TO REPRODUCE 1. Have my archive named mods.7z regardless of its location 2. Open it 3. select what you want and drag out the given folders with the mouse into a normal directory OBSERVED RESULT Corrupted extractions as elaborate on in summary. EXPECTED RESULT Proper extraction of folders SOFTWARE/OS VERSIONS Windows: macOS: Linux/KDE Plasma: Nobara 39, 6.7.6-201.fsync.fc39.x86_64 (64-bit) (available in About System) KDE Plasma Version: 5.27.10 with X11 KDE Frameworks Version: 5.115.0 Qt Version: 5.15.12 ADDITIONAL INFORMATION In the .png given. As you can see the left with the extracted folders and the right with the directory. File names do not match. If you want to have my archive I can happily make a google drive link for you. Also this is kind of a deal breaker for me, any other Linux Compression software around you folks can recommend. I really want to avoid something like this again. I only make this bug report as I would hate this to happen to an important archive or mine. Or someone else have this issue and be totally oblivious and think the archive is corrupted. Uh do give a community warning too if you folks are willing.
Can p7zip (typically what's the 7z executable in Linux distributions) correctly extract the files? I'd suspect that first at least partially because Ark uses that for 7z files, although the extraction may be done with the K7zip implementation. Do the affected files contain special characters? Sometimes it's sneaky like _﹘—- being 4 different characters with the middle 2 being "Unicode", and the 7-Zip project is quite Windows-specific, embracing UTF-16 and locale madness, making it possible that an archive made on one system isn't handled well on another: https://unix.stackexchange.com/questions/305886/how-to-specify-character-encoding-for-7z
