Description Duns 2024-03-02 16:45:08 UTC
SUMMARY
***
I used ctrl+shift key to symlink a file from a Dolphin (/Krusader) tab to another (of shift to move). Now I can only copy: no choice with keys.

***

STEPS TO REPRODUCE
1. Open Dolphin and split it in two tabs
2. Try to symlink a file from a tab to another pressing ctrl+shift
3. You'are no more able to do that: the file is only copied

OBSERVED RESULT

ctrl+shift doesn't work

EXPECTED RESULT
ctrl+shift should work

Can't reproduce on arch, dolphin 24.02, wayland.

My release is indeed that...
This new behavior is after upgrading to plasma 6 in KDE Neon.
Today I noticed that with shift I am asked (with a pop-up) to choose among copy, move or symlink, but pressing ctrl+shift the file is simply *moved*, without any question.

I can confirm also in othe PC with Plasma 6 ctrl+shift doesn't work.
It seems work in virtualbox, because the host system can supply the help, so to say.
But try on a standalone machine, you will see.

Also in another Pc width plasma 6, I have ctrl+shift not working (even Dolphin says that that is the right keys combination to make a symlink).
Only krusader in root mode and after a few seconds can create a symlink with ctrl+shift.
In shortcuts (neither of Dolphin nor the global system) I cannot see "create symlink" (to try another keys).

I guess that the problem is not Dolphin, but Plasma 6, isn't it?

Was testing on plasma 6 dev build. Do you have something like an IME that has ctrl+shift as a shortcut?
Comment 7 Duns 2024-03-07 15:42:37 UTC
What is a IME?

On the same PC I noticed that Plasma 6 with x11 doesn't have this bug. And I think that I have the same custom shortcuts (only the graphical server protocol is different). This bug is only with Plasma 6 + Wayland. At least in 3 my PC.

on closer inspection, I noticed that also with plasma 5.27.10 in Wayland ctrl+shift doesn't work.
So the problem seems Wayland, not Plasma 6.

For some reason can reproduce today -- holding shift and holding ctrl also don't work. Arch linux, git source build, wayland.

This is not a priority. But it would be interesting to find if there is some application that causes this problem.
I.g. recently I noticed that my persistent problems with power commands, were caused by espanso: if I close (stop) espanso power commands, such as logout or reboot, work still.
Maybe something also with ctrl+shift ?

More than 10 years ago I had a problem with shift key (no more working, nowhere, write was very difficult): resolved deleting clementine (tha audio player, yes) config: incredible but true.

This should improve with new Plasma 6.2 onwards
