SUMMARY When computer boots, and you are greeted with SDDM logon screen, waiting a short while, then logon box hides. When sitting at computer keyboard, one can not press a key like shift or spacebar to reveal the logon box, one has to physically move the mouse. if for some reason mouse does not work, one can not easily log in. STEPS TO REPRODUCE 1. boot computer, or lock kde plasma screen 2. at logon prompt, wait a few minutes, logon box dissappears. 3. try pressing keys on keyboard to reveal logon box, can not get logon box to show, one has to move the mouse. OBSERVED RESULT logon box dissappears, press key on keyboard EXPECTED RESULT expected logon box to appear, so one can type password SOFTWARE/OS VERSIONS Windows: macOS: Linux/KDE Plasma: kde 5.2x (available in About System) KDE Plasma Version: all versions KDE Frameworks Version: all versions Qt Version: i'm using debian 12 ADDITIONAL INFORMATION This bug has been around for a very long time. Affects both new users and veteran users. And please do not DARE to close this as "not-a-bug".. Its definitely a bug that affects user experience.
Thank you for your bug report! Can't reproduce on plasma 6 lockscreen -- typing correctly reveals the password field/logon box. Since you are using debian 12, you are probably on plasma 5.27.5, which is unfortunately out of support from KDE. Debian advises users to not submit bugs upstream (https://www.debian.org/Bugs/Reporting), as this version of the KDE software is out of support from KDE, and so it's possible that the bug exists only in Debian at this point. Could you report the bug to Debian using the report bug utility (https://packages.debian.org/stable/utils/reportbug)? If necessary, the maintainer of the package will forward the bug upstream.
