Description Archisman Panigrahi 2024-02-18 16:48:23 UTC
SUMMARY

Keyboard backlight is usually unnecessary during daytime.
I propose that the night color mode gets an option to automatically turn on the keyboard backlight at night (for devices with keyboard backlight), simultaneously with the activation of the night color. At daytime, it would turn off the keyboard backlight.

STEPS TO REPRODUCE
N/A

OBSERVED RESULT
There is no method to automatically turn off the keyboard backlight at daytime.

EXPECTED RESULT
The Night Mode should have an option to turn on keyboard backlight at night, and turn it off during daytime.

SOFTWARE/OS VERSIONS
Linux/KDE Plasma: Kubuntu 24.04 nightly image
KDE Plasma Version: 5.27.10
KDE Frameworks Version: 5.113.0
Qt Version: 5.15.10

These aren't assumptions we can make, sorry. People can and do use their laptops in dim environments during the day, and when it's nighttime, they commonly turn on a light so they can still see, making keyboard backlighting unnecessary. The only time when keyboard backlighting is necessary is when conditions are dim, which much be detected, not assumed. For this, we would need support for automatic brightness control via a photosensor, and also the hardware would need to include such a sensor.
