Description Ryan 2024-01-13 19:07:06 UTC
SUMMARY
While working with Kate, some open sessions may become frozen. Trying to kill the frozen sessions does not work. Looking at the 'properties' with system monitor shows that they are uninterruptable.
Attempting to reboot/shutdown the computer does not complete. I need to hold the power button to get the computer to reboot/shutdown (I am assuming the uninterruptable kate session prevents the computer from shutting down).

STEPS TO REPRODUCE
1. Open Kate, start a session from the session manager window.
2. Work.
3. Session (sometimes) freezes.

OBSERVED RESULT
Session becomes uninterruptable.

EXPECTED RESULT
No freeze or that the session can be killed if it does freeze.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION
My home user directory is a zfs pool mounted inside the /home dir.
I am accessing text files on an external drive (zpool) mounted inside my user home directory.... So it is a zfs pool mounted inside another zfs pool.
I would guess that this may have something to do with the issue but it is a guess. I bring zfs up because in the past I have had problems shutting down when zfs would not unmount/export/whatever-it-does-at-shutdown and I could not power down. I don't know if zfs is stuck because of kate or if kate is stuck for some other reason.
No other snaps /apps have produced similar issues to date.

Hi, I can not reproduce that.
As you mention below, you have a very specific setup.
If there is a way to reproduce it without that, I could take a look, but I don't see any way to find nor fix that without a proper reproduction way.

I completely forgot I filed the bug.
It seems to have been an issue with my zpool set-up and my wavlink external drive. Drawing power from the wavlink hub resulted in the device transiently disconnecting. This caused zpool to stop responding and kate seemed to be worst affected by this but the problem is not a kate issue.
