You can select a saturated color but it shows a pale tone. desaturated. Tested also in images, not only video. STEPS TO REPRODUCE 1. Select the chroma key: basic effect. Apply over a video or image clip. 2. try to use the color picker. 3. I cannot reproduce with version 23.08.4, following your steps. Please upload a picture on which you have the problem.
You can select an area for an average color to be created from all the colors in the area. Make sure you don't move the mouse when clicking. Please confirm that a single click picks the color under the color picker's tip. Also, please try with the latest version 25.04.3
