Version: (using KDE Devel) Installed from: Compiled sources OS: Linux In my opinion the MIME tree should never be shown by default, since it's something uncommon in mail readers, waste screen space and most important will not be understood by a normal end user (one that only wants to read mail, not see the message structure). I think a button, shortcut or the like to pop it up would be more useful (I know about the SMART option, but with this sometimes the MIME tree appears, and the end user ask himself... what's that thing?)

Marc
Mmm, but they're different and the MIME tree is eating too much space even on my 17" screen... the similarity is not the key point, when you compose a message you want to be sure that attachments are there, so it's important to see them, but when reading e-mail most people don't care about the internal message structure. When I see a message I just wanna read it, not be distracted by how the internal message structure
I was about to post the same wishlist. The structure viewer makes no sense for non-technical users, and even I (a programmer) have had it disabled for several months, without having missed it even for a second. Some reasons: - The structure viewer is not necessary for accessing the content of the mail. I can read my mails just fine, even when they are in HTML. I can perfectly access attachments without needing the structure viewer. - It is completely uncomprehensible by the avarage, non-technical user: The average user does not know about MIME, different content parts and headers. Showing information they don't understand is only confusing, especially because it offers no added value for them.
I'd agree - I never use it - what would be more useful is the threaded message representation especially if it could show you new mail at any point on the thread Michael On Thu April 22 2004 18:59, Frederik Himpe wrote: > ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- > You are the assignee for the bug, or are watching the assignee. > > http://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=47882 > > > > > ------- Additional Comments From fhimpe pandora be 2004-04-22 16:59 > ------- I was about to post the same wishlist. Replaced aaime@libero.it with null@kde.org due to bounces by reporter

I personally support this wish: make it possible to turn the message structure viewer on by using a shortcut and/or an icon in a toolbar (both optional of course). ATM there is no shortcut possible and no icon available to put in a toolbar.
Would not it be the right time to finally change the default setting for kde 4.1 please?
The message structure viewer is now hidden by default, starting with KDE 4.4. It can be enabled with the context menu or the View menu.
