SUMMARY I've upgraded KDE Plasma. Now, there is no response/refresh on folder changes unless I explicitly use <F5>. For example, the arrow does not appear in Dolphin when I drag and drop files or folders in an empty directory, GwenView does not show children directories at all when I expand some directory in its folders panel and so on. Also, when refreshing, the new directory entries appear, but it loses the directories state in the panel, so all become collapsed. It seems to be general, all the apps are impacted like that. I can't tell if something is missing in the system that makes it behave like that. SOFTWARE/OS VERSIONS KDE Plasma Version: 5.27.9 KDE Frameworks Version: 5.112.0 Qt Version: 5.15.11 Kernel Version: 6.1.64 (64-bit) Graphics Platform: X11
Let me know if I can do anything to diagnose the cause.
New build (Gentoo) of the same version, no difference. Is there a service to check if running or fails for some reason?
In order to reproduce, in Dolphin, in the details view: - create a new folder - create another new folder - move a folder into the other, in Dolphin, by drag and drop The expansion control (usually a '>' or a '+' sign) does not appear until a manual refresh is done. Also, in GwenView, that expansion control does not appear or does nothing, although it changes its state, the children directories are not listed at all.
Yes, I reported the same thing in 479240. For me, even using F5 doesn't always work (in Dolphin). Even after refreshing, some folders do not have a expand caret and also report there are 0 items in the folder. I assume that misreading the number of files in a subdirectory as zero is the cause of the UI display fault.
I've reproduced it in KDE Neon User Edition with Plasma 5.27.10. To me it's one of the worst bugs lately, especially at a moment when Plasma 5 would be used by people not jumping to 6 yet due to potential stability problems or build difficulties or simply reliability reasons. 5 should be parked in relatively good condition.
For me it is fixed in: KDE Plasma Version: 5.27.11 KDE Frameworks Version: 5.115.0 Qt Version: 5.15.12 Kernel Version: 6.6.22-mocaccino (64-bit) Graphics Platform: X11 What about you, Kerry N?

In dolphin-23.08.5-1.fc39.x86_64, I still have to F5 to refresh. If I create a few in a subdirectory of a directory that is being displayed, and I create a file in the subdirectory, it doesn't update the caret or the number of items in the subdirectory unless I use F5.
I am on Gentoo, using Dolphin 23.08.5. I think it is not Dolphin related, but rather Plasma. Now I have got back directories listing in GwenView too.

Is this related to https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=477607 which has been resolved. My dolphinrc doesn't have anything under the PreviewSettings [PreviewSettings] Plugins= But it is still not always working for me. I can close and open dolphin again and it will refresh some folders but some still remain with the wrong number of files in subdirectories (i.e. zero instead of having more than zero). I am currently at: $rpm -q dolphin dolphin-23.08.5-1.fc39.x86_64 kdelibs-4.14.38-39.fc39.x86_64
