Is 'Information' amongst the available panels?
Comment 2 Dashon 2024-03-13 11:53:43 UTC
Appears to be working for me on arch. I wonder if the thumbnail programs installed. I have these three installed on my system:
ffmpegthumbnailer 2.2.2-5
ffmpegthumbs 24.02.0-1
kdegraphics-thumbnailers 24.02.0-1
Comment 3 heroofgraz 2024-05-23 22:34:40 UTC
I am having this issue on Arch Linux after updating to KDE Plasma 6. I never had an issue with thumbnails previous to this. I have reinstalled the ffmpegthumbnailer, ffmpegthumbs, and kdegraphics-thumbnailers packages as suggested by Dashon, all to no effect. Image thumbnails DO appear for me in Gwenview, when I select the open file option in Kate, and when I open the file upload dialog from Firefox. However image thumbnails DO NOT appear when I open the sidebar in Kamoso. I hope these details can help to narrow down the source of this bug to get it fixed ASAP, as it is a huge inconvenience. Is there code or libraries that both Dolphin and Kamoso use, but not Gwenview and Kate?

My system details:
Dolphin Version: 24.02.2
KDE Plasma Version: 6.0.4
KDE Frameworks Version: 6.2.0
QT Version: 6.7.0
Kernel Version: 6.9.1-arch1-2 (64-bit)
Graphics Platform: X11

I have also confirmed that at least one other Arch user is experiencing this same issue: https://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?pid=2173273

linux cachy 6.9.1
Wayland

Exactly same bug as heroofgraz@gmail.com. It happened like a week or two ago and still there.

I can't reproduce this. Thumbnails show up for me. Are all the effected users on Arch?
Comment 6 heroofgraz 2024-06-03 05:49:11 UTC
I figured out what my problem was. I just had to go View->Show Previews. Somehow that box got automatically unchecked when I updated to Plasma 6. I think this is probably the case for most Arch users having this problem at least.

I'm on endeavourOS based on Arch and I don't have the problem.

Same, also on EOS and not having this problem. I am missing thumbnails for directories on network shares though.

How can I access this "View" in Dolphin? I'm on EndeavourOS and had this problem. I managed to solve it now, though, by right-clicking the toolbar, selecting Toolbar settings and then adding "Show previews" to the available buttons. Now I can toggle the previews with the button.

You should be able to make it appear by pressing Ctrl+M

Thanks a lot! I see the direct shortcut is F12.

Let's set this to needsinfo.

Alexander, nawa36: was your issue the poor discoverability of this toggle?

Debian Sid user here, with a working Plasma 6 from Experimental. I don't have thumbnails, too.

I just saw that, for each "thumbnailable" icon shown by Dolphin, journald writes:
dolphin	kf.kio.core: couldn't create worker: Unknown protocol 'thumbnail'

I have ffmpegthumbnailer and kdegraphics-thumbnailers packages installed. "Show previews" is also checked.
