SUMMARY

STEPS TO REPRODUCE

There are no steps to systematically reproduce. These are the steps I did that led to the issue, but I have done the exact same sequence of steps thousands of times with no issue.

This has happened to me once

1. insert an SD card into the laptop's built-in reader
2. Click in the "Disks and Devices" tray icon, find the SD card and click on "Mount and open". This opens the SD card in Dolphin
3. From another folder in another Dolphin window, select a bunch of files, drag them and (try to) drop them into the SD card

EXPECTED RESULT

should show a "+" cursor and allow me to drop, and then the context menu would show up allowing me to select between "copy here" and "move here"

OBSERVED RESULT

the cursor had a "forbidden sign" icon if I released the mouse button nothing happened.

ADDITIONALLY:

4. Then I go back to the source folder and do Ctrl+C
5. Go to the SD card Dolphin window and do Ctrl+V to paste the files

EXPECTED RESULT:
Should copy the files. If there is any reason why the files can't be copied, should show me an error message explaining the exact reason why the files cannot be copied

OBSERVED RESULT

did absolutely nothing, no error message, didn't copy the files, nothing.

Then I unmounted the SD card and mounted it again, and now it works as expected, as it always had in previous occasions.

NOTE: if this is due to the fact that, for some reason, the SD card had been mounted in read-only mode, then that would be a bug somewhere else outside of Dolphin (any idea where, so I can report it there?), BUT:
- When trying to paste with Ctrl+V, Nautilus should show an error message telling me that the files can't be copied and exactly why
- When using drag and drop, the forbidden-sign icon is nice, but there should be a way to know the reason why the files can't be copied.
