SUMMARY *** Hello In other cataloging software (Photo Supreme PS , LightRoom LR , ACDSee, ...), there there is the possibility to create "collections" (LR) or "portfolios" (PS), to collect and associate pictures, without copying them. The database manages that. The only alternative way I found in DigiKam is the creation of dedicated extra tags, but the "spoiling" the metadata of the image file with no real needed tags (tags should be devoted to the image, not the usage we make of that image). Could you add that possibility in Digikam ? In LR and PS, apart static collections (images being put there manually), there is also the possibility to create dynamic collections or portfolios, implementing automatic selection (using generally a filtering rule of the database). *** STEPS TO REPRODUCE 1. 2. 3. Hi Jean Jaqcques, Tags == Virtual Albums stored in database... https://docs.digikam.org/en/main_window/tags_view.html Tags (albums) are also registered in file metadata in dedicated entries (eg. Xmp tags) For me your wish is to rename Tags (virtual Albums) as "Virtual Albums". We will not do it. It's like this since a very long (15 years without hurt somebody) Best Gilles Caulier
Dear Gilles and Maik Thank you Maik for having corrected .... this is not a bug but a suggestion. To Gilles : no, I do not want to rename Tags. What i propose to add another structure for picture classification. Tags are really useful for the description of the photo (place of shot, ....), not the use (published on my Flickr, user for a contest, ...). This this second kind of information that would be useful to have in the database. So, it means that we could have an information storage being not linked to the picture itself (with no need to write this information as XMP in the file). In Lightroom, such functionality is implemented with "collections" (not the same meaning as in Digikam !), and with "porfolios" in PhotoSupreme. A turnaround in Digikam is to used also Tags to do that, but then it generates XMP information in the files, that is not really needed. So what I suggest is to have the capacity in Digikam database to have a hierarchical structure pointing to selected photos. This means then another structure (or file) added to the database, and UI to manage it.
