STEPS TO REPRODUCE
1. Put Reference images on your workspace
2. Save the file, it also happens after auto-saving, which made it difficult for me to pinpoint what triggered the behavior
3. Make any action after the saving, toggling a layer visibility, making a brush stroke or whatever.

OBSERVED RESULT
The screen will make a black area encompassing all the reference images triggered by the first action after the saving. The blackness disappears after changing the orientation of the canvas, like spinning, zooming or mirroring the image, but doesn't disappear by toggling layers or changing tools.

EXPECTED RESULT

Did this only start happening in some recent nightly builds? If yes, do you know the last build that didn't have this issue? I have a suspicion that it may be somewhat related to bug 401940.

(FWIW I haven't been able to reproduce this issue yet.)

I can't recall the last one that didn't have this issue, but it's been
going on for I'd say two weeks at least, but since it is the pre alpha I
wasn't too concerned about it. I don't have instant preview mode turned on,
I'm not sure if that makes any difference

Can you at least confirm that it doesn't happen on 5.2.1, and that it does happen with the latest stable nightly build? [1]

Please also attach the full output from "Help"->"Show system information for bug reports".

I can confirm it does not happen on the stable version. Sorry for the
trouble. I don't know if it's still relevant, but I'm sending my system
information anyway

After Saving 2.png

Turns out it actually is happening on the stable build. I still don't know
what triggers it. It doesn't really bother me that much, but just in case
someone else also finds this bug and you guys can piece together how to fix
it I'd like to make it known that it's there yk. I'm gonna send a
screenshot of a new file test and an older file test I did. Thank you for
your time and attention

By "stable build" are you referring to release version 5.2.1 or the stable nightly build (the one I linked earlier)? The latter contains the suspect change but *not* the former, so knowing the distinction is crucial to diagnosing the issue. If it does happen on release version 5.2.1 then I afraid I don't have a potential solution.

I'm referring to the nightly stable build released yesterday.

Does it happen on the official 5.2.1 stable release available at https://download.kde.org/stable/krita/5.2.1/ ? Sorry to have to keep asking for more information, but I really need to know this to decide on the next step.

Yeah, don't worry, I don't mind the requests. It is indeed happening on the
official version, so I guess you don't have a potential solution. Thank you
anyway.

Hi, Jesuá!

Could you please try enter Krita settings and change the rendering engine from OpenGL to ANGLE, then restart Krita. The bug might be related to the specific driver your GPU has. Usually such old GPUs has better support for DirectX than OpenGL (hence ANGLE is preferred)

Oh, the ANGLE was also having the same problem, but apparently if I
deactivate canvas acceleration it stops. Guess the program is a bit heavier
nowadays. Thank you for your time and help!
